CTS Extends Services to UHAS-SMS

In pursuance of its mandate of improving teaching and learning in higher education, the Centre for Teaching Support (CTS) of the College of Education Studies of UCC has extended its services to faculty of the School of Medical Sciences, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS-SMS).

The Centre for Teaching Support organised a week training workshop for 35 faculty of UHAS-SMS on the theme “Improving Teaching Methodologies: Andragogical approaches and Strategies with Information & Communication Technology (ICT)” at Ho in the Volta Region.

The broad objective of the training was to enhance professional development of the teaching staff by providing them opportunities to a range of andragogical approaches including: Course Outline Preparation, Test Construction, Marking Scheme Preparation and Project Work Supervision, Concept Maps, Presentation Application as a productivity tool, Instructional Strategies with ICT.

Resource persons for the workshop included the Director of CTS, Dr. Douglas D. Agyei, Dr. Kwaa- Aidoo, Dr. Kenneth Asamoah –Gyimah and Dr. Godwin Aboagye from the College of Education Studies. Dr. Douglas D. Agyei took the participants through “The Use of ICT in teaching” and “Using Problem- Based Learning Approach with ICT” whilst Dr. Kwaa-Aidoo handled “Presentation Application as a productivity tool”.  Dr. Kenneth Asamoah made a presentation on “Learning Outcomes/ Blooms Taxonomy of Cognitive Learning” and “Constructing Multiple Type Test Items” and Dr. Godwin Aboagye also led participants to acquire skills on “The Use of Concept Maps”, “Constructing Essay Type Items” and “Preparation of Marking schemes and Rubrics”. Participants were engaged in interactive, participatory and experiential sessions as well as formal presentations, group discussions, hands-on activities and poster presentations.

The Dean of the School of Medical Sciences (UHAS) Professor Harry Tagbor, expressed appreciation to the team of facilitators and urged members of his faculty to make use of the knowledge and skills acquired during the training to enhance their teaching and learning outcomes as well as their own professional development.
