NIC Commissioner Pays Courtesy Call on Vice-Chancellor of UCC

The Commissioner, National Insurance Commission (NIC), Dr. Abiba Zakariah, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, to discuss proposals for a partnership between the two institutions and also congratulate him on his appointment.

Dr. Zakariah explained that, as part of efforts to expand insurance awareness and the brand, the Commission seeks to adopt a proactive approach by extending insurance education and engagement to university students and staff.

She noted that they intend to collaborate with universities across the country, adding that the visit to UCC was part of efforts towards achieving this objective.

Accompanying the Commissioner were the Central Regional Head of NIC, Madam Nicholina Naa Yeye Adumuah; the Executive Secretary to the Commissioner of Insurance, Mr. Justice Peprah Agyei; the Administrator of the NIC Cape Coast Office, Ms. Pearl Elesi Mensah; and an Officer at the NIC Cape Coast Office, Mr. Huzaifa Yusif.

Professor Aheto expressed his appreciation to the Commissioner and her delegation for the visit and welcomed the proposed partnership.

He assured the NIC of the University's readiness to support insurance education initiatives and partnerships that would benefit members of the University community.

“That’s a great area for us,” he noted.

Members of the University's Management who were present also expressed their support for the proposed partnership. They included the Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mrs. Christine Adu-Yeboah; the Registrar, Gideon E. Abbeyquaye, Esq.; the Director of Finance, Mr. George Amfo-Antiri; and the Provost of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, Professor Daniel Agyapong.
