UCC, GNPC Strengthen Ties

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has received a delegation from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) Foundation to strengthen academic cooperation.

The delegation was led by the Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Ms Helga Boadi Aryee; the Head of Education and Career Development, Dr. Daniel Karikari; the Head of Enterprise and Livelihood Development, Mr. Nicholas Boampong; the Head of Internal Audit, Mr. Daniel Boakye; the Acting Head of Finance, Mr. Michael Badu; and the Special Assistant to the Executive Director, Mr. Wahab Adamu.

The team was welcomed by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Prof. Denis Aheto.

Prof. Aheto described the visit as timely and significant, underscoring the importance of collaboration in strengthening academic ties between UCC and the Foundation.

He lauded the GNPC Foundation for awarding scholarships to needy but brilliant students of the university over the years.

Prof. Aheto said plans were afoot for beneficiaries of the UCC-sponsored scholarship scheme, Students' Financial Support, to engage in part-time work on campus.

Mrs. Aryee expressed appreciation for the warm reception and described the engagement as an important step toward deepening the cordial relationship between the GNPC Foundation and the UCC.

She said the Foundation remains committed to programmes that ensure the holistic development of its scholars.

"We are looking beyond traditional scholarship funding. Our goal is to equip GNPC Foundation beneficiaries with the entrepreneurship, leadership, and career skills they need to become active contributors to Ghana's sustainable development," She pointed out.

She said UCC students form 10% of the scholarships awarded by the Foundation each year, making it the institution with the largest number of students to receive scholarships on campus.

The Executive Director said the Foundation was putting in place plans to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism in beneficiaries of the award.

Continuing, Prof. Aheto emphasised the need to align the scholarship framework with the current demands of tertiary education and national human resource development.

" Financial Support is important, but what the industry needs now are graduates who are future-ready and value-driven. This expanded partnership with the GNPC Foundation will help us achieve that," he noted.

Present at the meeting were the Registrar, Mr. Gideon Enoch Abbeyquaye, and other officials from UCC.
