University of Cape Coast celebrated the annual International Breast Cancer awareness month. As part of the awareness campaign a free breast cancer screening was organized for the staff of the University. This was the ninth time the Breast Cancer screening was arranged on campus.
Organizer of the Breast Screening campaign, Dr Akwesi Anyanfo, from the Department of Medical Biochemistry, explained the origins of the Breast Cancer Screening campaign, saying that when he had been in the United States he was doing research in breast cancer. Upon his return to Ghana he realized there was not enough awareness of the subject and hence patients could not be identified early enough. Thanks to this initiative more people are now aware of the risks, sign and symptoms of breast cancer.
