UCC Lecturer Selected for Prestigious Global Brain Health Fellowship

A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, University of Cape Coast (UCC), Dr. David Larbi Simpong, has been selected for the 2025 Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health fellowship at the Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI), University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

The prestigious fellowship is a highly competitive program that connects emerging leaders with a global network of world-class researchers, faculty, and clinicians dedicated to advancing brain health equity. Fellows undertake an intensive interdisciplinary curriculum spanning neurology, health economics, law, ethics, and leadership. They receive personalized mentoring, participate in clinical case discussions, and develop innovative projects to address critical brain health challenges.

Dr. Simpong, a clinical laboratory scientist and neuroscientist, is deeply committed to advancing neurodiagnostics in Ghana. His research focuses on creating affordable, accessible, and culturally relevant tools for the early detection of dementia. Holding a PhD in Neuroscience, he has an impressive track record of securing competitive research grants and fostering international collaborations.

Through his fellowship, Dr. Simpong aims to strengthen research and innovation in brain health while mentoring the next generation of scientists. Upon completion of the program, he plans to return to Ghana to lead advancements in neurodiagnostic solutions, positioning himself as a valuable resource to UCC and the country.
